O conflito faz parte das relações humanas desde o surgimento das primeiras sociedades. Nos termos de MOORE:  Desde o início da história registrada, temos evidência de disputas entre cônjuges, filhos, pais e filhos, vizinhos, grupos étnicos e raciais, colegas de trabalho, superiores e subordinados, organizações, comunidades, cidadãos e seu governo e nações.  Como elemento natural, facilmente observável nas sociedades em geral, natural também é a preocupação com a busca pela resolução dos conflitos, haja vista a necessidade da manutenção da paz e tranquilidade no seio social. Nesse sentido:  Não é próprio dos agrupamentos de pessoas conviver com os conflitos de interesses sem resolução, porquanto a persistência dos litígios provoca a intranquilidade e desestabilização na sociedade. [...]

Conflict has been part of human relations since the emergence of early societies.
