A temática da tortura durante o regime militar brasileiro, na relação entre a política externa do Brasil e dos Estados Unidos

RESUMO

Com o golpe militar no Brasil em 1964, instituiu-se um novo regime político no país. A tortura foi utilizada como um instrumento de segurança e investigação a despeito dos direitos humanos dos “interrogados”. O objetivo deste trabalho é compreender as influências da política externa norte-americana na institucionalização da tortura. Serão avaliadas a importância do contexto internacional e a história das relações externas entre o Brasil e os EUA, enfatizando seu papel na justificação da repressão.

ABSTRACT

With the military coup d’état in Brazil in 1964, a new political regime was instituted in the country. The torture was used as a security and inquiry instrument, despite of “the interrogated” human rights. The objective of this paper is to understand the influences of the North American foreign politics in the institutionalization of the torture. The importance of the international context and the history of the external relations between Brazil and U.S.A. will be evaluated, emphasizing its importance on the justification of the repression.
