Resumo
O presente artigo tem por objetivo uma análise sobre as relações entre economia e instituições e seus papeis no soft e hard power. Busca-se compreender o papel que as instituições e a economia poderiam ter para mudar essas condições de poder. Será argumentado que países com mais poder econômico, configurado por maior PIB per capita, tenderão a ter mais capacidade de soft power e tenderiam a ter menos necessidade de hard power. Por trás disso está a ideia de que as instituições são relevantes. Assim, será argumentado que países com forte base institucional seriam aqueles com condições de ter mais soft power ao longo do tempo do que hard power. A análise será feita em termos gerais, não se discutindo neste artigo o papel específico de hegemons como os Estados Unidos.
